THE POWER OF YOUR APPEARANCE

THE POWER OF YOUR APPEARANCE

If you want to be listened to and respected you need to pay particular attention on how you dress.

PROFESSIONALISM

As a Monitor you need to seriously consider how you look. Your professionalism and importance of your visit are reflected by your appearance. Never underestimate how your message will be received depending on how you look. When you dress professionally, you are sending the message that you are at the provider's home to conduct business not socialize.

DRESS FOR SUCCESS

How you feel about the way you look will reflect on how you conduct your business on that day. You have provably heard the term "dress for success". When you feel good about yourself it will be reflected on how you conduct your business. If you look and feel messy, you will not have the same degree of confidence as when you feel good about yourself. Your dress should reflect how you want to be perceived and treated by your client.

RESPECT

If you want to have the provider's respect, you must also show respect for the provider. How you look can demonstrate the degree of respect you have for a provider, her business, and her home. If the provider feels your appearance demonstrates a lack of respect or a lack of professionalism, she may feel the need to respond in a disrespectful and unprofessional manner.

GUIDELINES

Here are some general guidelines for both men and women when dressing for monitor visits:

Dress for comfort, confidence and safety

Skirts should be at least knee length so you can sit comfortably

Pants should be clean, fit comfortable, and have no holes, stains or tears

All clothes should be clean and pressed

Avoid wearing too much makeup, jewelry, or unusual piercings.

Avoid strong fragrances

Wear deodorant or antiperspirant

Think clean. You should have clean nails, clean skin, dry neatly arranged hair and good dental hygiene.

DRESS APPROPRIATELY FOR THE WEATHER

Take into consideration the weather conditions. If it is snowy or slippery out wear boots or shoes that have a good grip on the bottom. Avoid heels or shoes that cold cause you to slip or fall.

CONCLUSION

You do not want your appearance to be a distraction or the focal point of a business related visit. Paying attention to your appearance is an important step towards being successful in your profession
